There was a time when mothers used to complain that their tiny tots remain glued to television sets all day along. Children used to spend most of their time infront of the idiot box (as it is fondly called by members of the anti television squad) and not concentrate on their education. And as children hardly read their textbooks, it was impossible for them to devote any time for reading novels and comics. The reading habit among children had gone for a toss. But today, the scenario is completely different. Children are bored of the television and also of playing games. Most of them are glued to books, especially comics, which make children go ga ga over them.
He-Man, Superman, Bat Man seem to be passé. Enter the new age comics of Xena, the warrior princess, Pokemon and Garfield, which seems to have taken the fancy of toddlers and adults alike. These comics are so engrossing that one finds it difficult to stay away from them. So much is the craze of these comics that plans are on for publishing the comic version of the best seller Harry Potter series. A major reason for the growing popularity of comics can be attributed to the vibrant colors and the exciting way in which it is written. The trend started with the Tintin series, which became a national rage not only in North America, but worldwide.
